Mitteilungen der Botanischen Staatssammlung
und des Instituts für Systematische Botanik
der Universität München

Mit Band 8 (2002) wurde die Zeitschrift Sendtnera vorläufig eingestellt.

Die Zeitschrift "Mitteilungen der Botanischen Staatssammlung München" wurde 1950 von K. von Süssenguth gegründet, der bis 1954 Herausgeber war. Die in München erscheinende Zeitschrift diente von Anfang an als Forum für Arbeiten aus dem Bereich der Systematischen Botanik und Mykologie. Unter den Herausgebern H. Merxmüller (1958-1985), H. Hertel (1986-1990) und J. Grau, H. Hertel & D. Podlech (1991) erwarb sich die jährlich erscheinende Zeitschrift internationalen Ruf. Bis 1991 (Band 30) wurden eine Reihe wichtiger monographischer Werke publiziert. 1993 ging aus den "Mitteilungen der Botanischen Staatssammlung München" die Zeitschrift "Sendtnera" hervor, die sich als Publikationsorgan der Botanischen Staatssammlung und der Instituts für Systematische Botanik der LMU München versteht. Herausgeber von Band 1-3 (1993-1996) waren J. Grau & D. Podlech, ab Band 4 wird die Zeitschrift von J. Grau & F. Schuhwerk editiert. Mit dem Namen "Sendtnera" soll an den bedeutenden Münchner Botaniker Otto Sendtner (1813-1859) erinnert werden. Er war Konservator an der Staatssammlung sowie Professor für Botanik an der Universität München und arbeitete eng mit C. F. P. von Martius zusammen. Otto Sendtner lieferte wesentliche Beiträge zu einigen Bänden der "Flora Brasiliensis" und gilt als einer der Vorläufer und Begründer der modernen Vegetationskunde.
